The Fremantle Traffic Bridge will be closed for 12 months from the 1st February 2026. This ‘temporary’ structure has survived since 1939, but has been deteriorating for years and now needs full replacement for safety. Works that can only be completed with the bridge being fully closed.
The flow on effect of this is an estimated 23,000 more vehicles on Stirling Bridge daily (that’s an increase of 38%). Stirling Bridge currently carries a large proportion of container trucks to and from Fremantle port. Having an increase in vehicles using the same road will inevitably create traffic congestion and delays, especially during peak commute times. This has the potential result of higher supply chain costs from longer truck wait times, reduced productivity, wharf storage, missed booking slots, no show fees, late arrival, fuel costs, etc. The ripple effect is huge!
Our transport companies have been pro-actively working on plans to reduce the effects of this closure:
Operational Planning & Delays
Our transport companies recommend allowing additional transit time for all scheduled movements that may be affected by congestion during morning and afternoon peak periods. Planning for deliveries outside peak traffic hours may reduce the risk of delays.
Potential Additional Charges
Due to the scale and expected duration of the closure, please note that additional charges may apply in the event of:
